 The Minnie Pearl Scholarship Fund

With the school year just beginning, many high school seniors are beginning to think about their first year of college, where they'll be going and most importantly how are they going to pay for it!

The Minnie Pearl Scholarship fund helps hearing-impaired high school seniors further their education at colleges, universities and technical schools across the United States. Country music entertainer Mrs. Sarah Cannon, also known as Minnie Pearl, was instrumental in establishing the Minnie Pearl Scholarship Fund. With the aid of this scholarship, young hearing-impaired people can take a more active role in mainstream society by reaching their full potential as productive adults in our hearing world.

Each year we receive over 150 qualified applications for these funds. Our past recipients have attended such institutions as Harvard, Vanderbilt, University of Texas and other prestigious schools. These recipients are exceptional students. They have achieved academic excellence, are class leaders, and have aspired to even higher levels after high school. Even more remarkable, these students have been able to reach such high goals in spite of being hearing impaired.

We have seen the results and benefits of the Minnie Pearl Scholarship. It works! If you or your company would be interested in sponsoring a Minnie Pearl Scholarship recipient, please contact us to see how you can help a gifted young person realize their dreams.

If you are a high school senior who has:
  • At least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale,
  • Severe to profound bilateral hearing loss,
  • Are already accepted but not yet in attendance in a full time university, college junior college or technical school,
  • And a mainstreamed, hearing-impaired student and a United States citizen
then you are eligible to apply for this $2,000 renewable scholarship. Take a moment to fill out the Minnie Pearl Scholarship application, include the necessary items and drop it in the mail. It must be postmarked before February 12, 2002. Print it out here: http://earfoundation.org/minniescholarship.html
