Friday January 19, 7:00 am Eastern Time -- Sprint, a global communications company which provides Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) in 27 states to deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, and speech disabled consumers and to the Federal government, has become a Gold Sponsor for Deaf Way II, which will be held next year at Gallaudet University and in the Washington, DC, area July 8- 13, 2002. (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20001013/SPRINTLOGO) Sprint, the leading provider of relay services, signed an agreement with Deaf Way II to be the first Gold Sponsor with its $150,000 contribution. Deaf Way II will bring together thousands of deaf and hard of hearing people, as well as their hearing colleagues, family members and friends, and provide them the opportunity to share and enjoy the rich language, culture, history, and art of deaf and hard of hearing people from every corner of the world. It is expected that more than 10,000 people will attend this week-long conference. ``We are extremely pleased to have this generous sponsorship from Sprint,'' said Dr. Harvey Goodstein, chair of the Deaf Way II organizing committee. ``Sprint's commitment in providing deaf and hard of hearing consumers with superior quality communications service will be augmented with their philanthropic support of the international Deaf Way II conference.'' Patterned after the enormously successful 1989 Deaf Way event, the Deaf Way II gathering further explores the interconnectedness of Deaf life in the new century. Just as the first Deaf Way fostered a Deaf global village, this event will bring that ever-changing and more inclusive village together for a week of celebration and sharing. Thanks to new media and technology, the events of Deaf Way II will reach an even broader audience so that all may learn of the richness of deaf experience. ``The Sprint Relay(SM) team looks forward to participating in the Deaf Way II event,'' said Tony D'Agata, VP/GM of Sprint's Government Systems Division. ``As the leading telecommunications relay provider, we embrace this opportunity to celebrate and foster the arts and culture of a diverse Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community.''
