ASHA announces Workshop on Grant Writing in Communication Sciences and Disorders, to be held at the National Office in Rockville, MD on May 5-6, 2001. The conference is being co-sponsored by the Research and Scientific Affairs Committee and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation. The workshop will feature panel discussions about effective strategies for developing grant proposals and for understanding the grant application and review process. The primary audience will be individuals who are interested in obtaining funding for research in communication sciences and disorders. This would include doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior level faculty. During the workshop, a panel of experts will review and provide feedback in small group discussions about actual grant proposals submitted by attendees. Attendees are invited to submit proposals for review and discussion. Proposals may be of research, career development, or training grants to federal and private funding agencies (e.g., NIH, ASHF, etc.) in draft or final form, although preference will be given to completed proposals. Proposal topics can include basic or applied research related to speech, language, or hearing. If a proposal has been reviewed previously, review comments should be appended. Up to ten travel stipends will be awarded to individuals whose proposals are selected for review during the workshop. Individuals are not required to submit a proposal in order to participate in the workshop discussions. Seating for the workshop is limited. The program is offered for 1.0 ASHA CEUs (introductory level; professional area).
