Call for Presentation Proposals
Speakers, Workshops, Presenters, Panelists

Invitation: 
TDI invites proposals for keynote speeches, workshops, presentations, forums, and panel discussions for the 14th Biennial
TDI International Conference, July 7-1, 2001 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Conference Program Co-chairs Pam Holmes and Andy Lange invite you to be a part of history, as we create an outstanding showcase of talented, exemplary leaders to take an
active role at the upcoming TDI Conference.

Conference Theme: 
Information, Technology & Access: The Gold Rush of the Future

Proposal Deadline: 
Postmarked mail or email submission by Thursday, March 16, 2001

Proposal Format: 
1. A written proposal no more than 500 words on what will be covered and whom that will participate.
2. An abstract of approximately 50 words describing your topic/session.
3. A one-two paragraph biographic sketch about each presenter.
4. All presentations will be 90 minutes in length.
5. The anticipated audience will consist of deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing people from the telecommunications, media and
technology fields.
6. TDI is looking for:
o Workshop presenters (interactive with audience)
o Plenary or panel presenters (Q&A session at end)
o Research panel facilitators and panelists
o International panel facilitators and panelists
o Debate facilitators and participants
o Forum/discussion circle/focus group research or information gathering sessions with industry/and or government agencies
and consumers*
o Technological Dreams panel facilitator and panelists
o Vendor demonstration sessions during the Expo

Research Forum: 
*Researchers, professors from academia, manufacturers, and service providers across America are invited to share the
latest with their findings, design experience, and development activities with certain products and/or services in various
technologies with telecommunications and media.

Presentation Topics: 
These should address the conference theme.
Suggested topics include:

· Telecommunications Access
o TRS, Consumer Choice, VRS, IVR Access
o Equipment Distribution Programs
o Wireless systems, cell phones, pagers, hearing aid compatibility
o Long distance access - how to chose the best plan
o 911, 711, 411 pre-subscription - trends and realities
o Section 255 of the Telecommunications Act implementation factors and successes

· The Internet
o Internet 2, Instant Messaging, PDA capabilities
o Utilization of remote learning
o Internet Relay
o Internet software programs and applications that bring access
o Any other educational applications/potential development of new programs
· Captioning
o Captioning technologies and their application in all forms
o FCC's captioning rules; enforcement issues; impact on service quality
o Quality issues with local news and real-time captioning, emergency captioning
o HDTV captioning promises
o Captioning issues in movie theaters

· Video Technology
o Video Relay
o Video/text chat technology
· Emergency Access
o 911 Service experiences, training, and other issues
o Emergency Captioning Requirements for Broadcasters
o Tornado warning systems; emergency preparation

· Voice Recognition Applications
o Applications that bring improved access

· Enhanced Sound Quality Issues
o Meeting room access; classroom acoustic standards
o Standards for Assistive Listening Technology; sound systems· Inclusion and needs of Deaf-Blind individuals via technology application

· Access issues related to:
o The Hospitality industry
o Transportation industry
o Local government services
o Courts and other public facilities

Regrettably, TDI is unable to offer honorarium or per diem. Presenters will be responsible for all expenses, registration and
