Tommy G. Thompson, Secretary of Health & Human Services
to Give Keynote Address at Convention 2001

Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson, the
nation's leading advocate for the health and welfare of all
Americans, will give the Keynote Address during the Opening
General Assembly of the American Academy of Audiology's 13th
Annual Convention & Exposition in San Diego, California.

"Secretary Thompson is the true 'gatekeeper' when it comes to
HCFA," explains Academy President David A. Fabry, PhD. "I can't wait to hear his 'inside the beltway' take on reimbursement issues, health insurance and how it affects the audiology profession."

Secretary Thompson will kick off the Opening General Assembly on Thursday, April 19th from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm at the San Diego Convention Center. The program will also feature rock n' roll icon Huey Lewis, who will share how his experience with hearing loss and the audiologist who helped him has changed his life.

As the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Thompson oversees more than 60,000 personnel and a budget of $429 billion. He has dedicated his professional life to public service, most recently serving as governor of Wisconsin since 1987.

More than 8,000 audiologists, exhibitors and students are expected to be in attendance. In addition, 200 exhibitors will showcase the latest in hearing health innovation and technology. For more information on registration, housing and program highlights for the American
