Cochlear’s Nucleus® Freedom™ system has been named recipient of the 2006
Medical Design Excellence Awards
This week I’m
thrilled to let you know that the Nucleus® Freedom™ system has been
named recipient of the 2006 Medical Design Excellence Awards! The
Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) competition is the premier
awards program for the medical technology community, recognizing the
achievements of medical product manufacturers and the many people behind
the scenes—engineers, scientists, designers and clinicians—who are
responsible for the groundbreaking innovations that are changing the
face of
healthcare. The MDEA program is open worldwide to companies and
individuals involved in the design, engineering, manufacturing or
distribution of finished medical devices or medical packaging; with
awards offered in 10 different categories.
We have all been very excited about the innovation that Freedom has
delivered, but it’s even more exciting to be officially recognized by
such a prestigious organization.
In addition to the MDEA award, the Nucleus Freedom system has been
awarded several other awards including Frost and Sullivan’s 2006 Product
of the Year.
For 25 years all Nucleus products have been designed to deliver
life-changing results, and Cochlear will continue to strive to deliver
the most innovative technology for years to come. For those of us with
the Freedom implant or processors, we can be very proud that we are
walking around with “award winning” technology delivering hearing for
us. And of
course, the option to upgrade to it (Freedom sound processor) will be
available to everyone in the future!
There is additional information about the MDEA award on Cochlear’s
