The CHAAMP™ Cell Phone Module is Compatible with Nokia 5100, 6100, 7100
Series Cell Phones
Longview, Texas, April 29, 2002 - Today Audex, Inc., a leading
manufacturer of telecommunications and assistive listening devices,
unveiled a new mobile phone accessory for hearing impaired people.
Designed for hearing-impaired people as well as for use in noisy
environments by those with normal hearing, The CHAAMP™ snap-on mobile
phone accessory is compatible with three Nokia series phones.
The CHAAMP™ cell phone module attaches to any Nokia 5100, Nokia 6100, or
Nokia 7100 series cell phone. The accessory eliminates the interference
that some digital cell phones cause in hearing aids. The device is also
useful in difficult listening environments, such as construction and
transportation, when a cell phone that provides higher speaker and ringing
volumes is needed. In addition to its compatibility with hearing aids,
additional features of The CHAAMP™ include background noise suppression, a
high-quality speaker for improved sound, a recorder function for on-line
recording of calls and playback capability, and a flashing light indicator
for incoming calls.
"We are delighted to bring this unique product to market," said Richard
Manley, CEO of Audex, Inc. "Audex is keenly aware that there is a market
demand from telecommunications users for a product that reduces audio
interference in hearing aids and improves the overall cell phone listening
function. For most hearing aid users, digital cell phones are a source of
interference, and The CHAAMP™ eliminates the interference that is caused
by the cell phones," continued Mr. Manley.
According to the American Academy of Audiology, more than 28 million
Americans - about 10% of the population - suffer from hearing loss. In
addition, industry sources estimate that there are about 6 million United
States and 10 million European hearing aid users. The Cellular
Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), the leading national
organization which represents both wireless carriers and manufacturers,
reports that there are currently over 50 million cellular customers in the
United States. Moreover, one of the industry's most recognized cellular
phone distributors concludes that the greatest concern of the general
public is increasing the incoming audio volume of cell phones.
The CHAAMP™ will be available in third quarter of 2002.
