A Workshop for Parents of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing
Children ages 2 to 6

Join us for a four-day workshop where you will learn effective ways to
work with your child and help your child learn to talk.
Bring your child and make this a Family Affair. Classes will be provided
for children 2 to 6 years and evaluation of speech and language will be
provided for children 3 years and up, for an additional fee.
The following topics will be discussed:
- hearing loss and its impact on learning spoken language
- understanding language learning in young children
- turning everyday activities into language learning exeriences
- managing your child so your child does not manage you
- mainstreaming your child in playgroups and community activities
Enrollment is limited so that there will be plenty of opportunity for
interaction and hands-on experiences.
The fee for this workshop is $50 and includes a continental breakfast bar
and a happy hour buffet.

* This workshop is supported by a grant from a private foundation. For
overnight accommodations, the Summerfield Suites Hotel has rooms available
at a special rate ($119 per night for a one-bedroom suite; $139 for a

PRESENTERS
Betsy Moog Brooks, Director of the Family School Program, works with
families, helping parents learn ways to work with their hearing-impaired
child. She has lectured and given workshops about educating young deaf
children and the importance of early intervention.
Laura Ferguson, Coordinator of the Family School Program, has 20 years of
experience teaching young deaf children to talk. She coordinates the
parent-infant program, the toddler class and audiologic services for
children in the birth to three age range.
Valerie Frigo, a teacher and mainstream consultant, works with families
and school districts in St. Louis and throughout the Midwest, helping
teachers learn effective ways of including deaf and hard-of-hearing
children in activities and classes with normal-hearing children.
Beth Holstad and Roxanne Aaron, our school audiologists, work with
children in our Family School as well as in our full-time school program.
They also consult with day care workers, preschool teachers and others
about room acoustics, hearing aids, cochlear implants and FM systems.
Jean Sachar Moog, Director and Founder of the Moog Center for Deaf
Education, is an internationally known leader in deaf education. She has
lectured extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada and conducted
workshops in England, Italy, Japan and New Zealand. |
