MCLEAN, Va.- Oct. 9, 2001--Recent revelations about Rush Limbaugh's hearing loss have caused a "rush" by consumers to learn more about hearing loss and what can be done to prevent it.
The American Academy of Audiology, the professional association for audiologists in the United States and abroad, reports an unprecedented number of calls from consumers requesting information on audiologists, hearing loss, hearing aids, tinnitus and other hearing related topics.

"When Rush Limbaugh came forward on Monday's show, his revelation moved a lot of people," says Academy President David A. Fabry, PhD, Chief of Audiology for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. "People are realizing how catastrophic hearing loss would be in their own lives... And they want to know what they can do about it." More than 28 million Americans suffer from hearing loss making it one of the most prevalent chronic health conditions in this country.
