NATICK, Mass., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Boston Scientific
Corporation (NYSE: BSX) today announced that its subsidiary, Advanced
Bionics
Corporation of Valencia, California, is resuming worldwide distribution of
its
HiResolution(R) cochlear implant systems, effective immediately. Advanced
Bionics initiated a voluntary recall of all unimplanted cochlear implant
systems on September 24, 2004.
Cochlear implants are used to treat adults with severe or profound
bilateral hearing loss (70 decibel or greater) and children -- 12 months
to 17
years -- with profound bilateral hearing loss (90 decibel or greater).
More
than 16,000 adults and children use Advanced Bionics cochlear implants,
which
produce an electrical reproduction of acoustic signals through proprietary
HiResolution processing technology.
Boston Scientific acquired Advanced Bionics in June.
