LOS ANGELES – September 24, 2002 – Jennifer Derebery, M.D., an
otolaryngologist at the House Ear Clinic has become the first woman in the
106 year history of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck
Surgery to be elected as its president for 2003-2004. Dr. Derebery is also
the fourth physician from a single organization, the House Ear
Clinic/House Ear Institute in Los Angeles, to be elected to this office.
Other House Ear Clinic specialists who have previously served as AAO
President are Drs. Howard P. House, Derald E. Brackmann and Antonio De la
Cruz. Dr. Derebery is a member of the Academy’s Board of Directors and has
held other leadership positions within the organization.
Among her areas of expertise, Dr. Derebery is the House Ear Clinic’s
full-time specialist for diagnosing and treating allergy-related hearing
loss and associated disorders such as dizziness, cochlear hydrops and
Meniere’s disease. Dr. Derebery is one of the nation’s leading specialists
in this field. She also has a specialization in autoimmune inner ear
disease (AIED), and is currently serving as a co-principal investigator in
a study on the treatment of AIED, sponsored by the National Institutes of
Health and the National Institute on Deafness and other Communication
Disorders. Dr. Derebery has received numerous awards for her clinical and
research studies. She is a Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology at the
University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and is listed in the Guide
to Best Doctors in America.
