[HearingExchange News] - HearingExchange Adds Weblog on Hearing Loss, DVD featuring Paula Playing at EPCOT and More February 14, 2007 ========================================================== Dear HearingExchange Members, ---------------------------------------------------------- Happy Valentine's Day to all our HearingExchange members! It's been a while since you've heard from me, but HearingExchange is still an interactive and changing community to support people with hearing loss. Recently, I decided to shake things up quite a bit! HearingExchange is now a weblog site, one where I can both report and comment on the news and offer my insights on hearing loss, cochlear implants and parenting deaf and hard of hearing children. For those of you who aren't familiar with weblogs (called "blogs" for short), let me explain. The HearingExchange blog will be updated frequently with posts I make. The posts will have designated categories such as Hearing Loss, Parenting, Cochlear Implants, etc. You can use the sidebar to select which posts you're interested in, rather than scrolling through all of them. You will also be able to comment on individual posts by clicking on the "Comment" link at the end of the post. In order to comment, you must be registered. Often, there will be links within a post to other websites and resources I mention so be sure to use your mouse and click on highlighted words and phrases. But don’t worry, I still have links to all the areas the HearingExchange community has grown to love since 2000 when we first began. Links to the Message Boards (now called “Forums”) as well as News Archives, Paula’s Pearls articles, Resources and more are all online here. Spend some time browsing the new site, but please note that it is still a work in progress. Be sure to subscribe to our news feed so that you can be notified when new posts and comments are up at HearingExchange. You will see small tabs near the bottom of the right sidebar of the site that say, "RSS Feed," "Bloglines," "Add to Google," "My Yahoo," "My MSN" and "My AOL." You only need to use one of these and by clicking on the one you choose, you can get more information about exactly what it is and how it works. By subscribing, you don't need to remember to visit our site since you'll have the news feed delivered to your browser or to the site you choose. You won’t want to miss our updates! If you have a blog or website related to hearing loss, please send me an email at info@hearingexchange.com. I would be happy to exchange links with you. There are two other pieces of exciting news which I have "blogged" about on the site. One is about my daughter who underwent her second cochlear implant surgery this past December. Within 5 weeks her "new" ear has reached phenomenal test scores in open set discrimination! Want to see how's she's doing? Hop on over to the site, the new link to the blog is below. The other is about the DVD "Back to the Hearing World" which featured both me and my daughter as people who have benefited from cochlear implant technology. The DVD is now being shown continuously at Walt Disney World in Orlando in EPCOT's Innoventions building. If you're visiting Disney World, please be sure to check it out and let us know what you think! Keep reading for more great information and resources in this issue of HE News. Feel free to forward this email, print it, distribute it or post it to other individuals, professionals or groups who have an interest in hearing loss. There is no other community website online for people with hearing loss and their families quite like ours. This newsletter is being sent to over 5,600 people. If you pass it on to just one person, together we can help thousands of others find essential support and make a difference in their lives. As always, thank you for reading and I hope to "hear" from you soon!
