Successfully navigating her way through a hearing world as a profoundly hearing impaired woman, Paula Rosenthal of Jericho - law school graduate, wife and mother of two, was faced with the suspicion that her own child was experiencing a hearing loss. In 1997 her daughter was formally diagnosed after its initial onset.
Looking back on her own experiences, Rosenthal recalled that education, socialization and employment issues became more difficult as her own hearing loss worsened. Concerned for her daughter's welfare and discovering that many other parents were confronting the same issues, such as therapy and special education, Rosenthal decided to create HearingExchange.com.
This new Web site provides a forum where adults with hearing loss, parents of hearing impaired children, teachers and experts in the field can tap into a myriad of the most recent medical information, articles and resources for support, assistive technology and advocacy. There's even a monthly calendar of events taking place across the nation.
