HearingExchange Debuts Online for People with Hearing Loss
ST. LOUIS, MO - November 14, 2000 - Debuting just 7 weeks ago, HearingExchange is a comprehensive site for adults with hearing loss, parents of deaf and hard of hearing children and the
professionals who work with them. The site offers relevant news, articles, forums, resources, experts, events and more.
Founded by Paula Rosenthal, a profoundly hearing impaired woman,
HearingExchange is the result of her personal and professional experiences. "For many years I functioned well in the hearing world attending public schools and graduating from college and law school," said Paula Rosenthal. "As my hearing got progressively worse, education, employment and socialization became more difficult. In 1997 my daughter was diagnosed with her hearing impairment after its initial onset. Today, she is still struggling to catch up with her peers for speech and language. I discovered that there were many parents dealing with the same issues of therapy, special education and support. By creating
HearingExchange, I have married my interests in research and writing with my lifelong experiences as a hard of hearing person and a parent of a child with hearing loss."
HearingExchange has been designed for comprehensiveness, ease of use and interactivity. The website offers the most current news on hearing research, assistive technology, the Americans with Disabilities Act, cochlear implants, politics and much more. Forums are divided by special interests for those who are deaf and hard of hearing, parents of children with hearing loss, people with cochlear implants, special education issues and those who are late
deafened. Articles are available offering practical advice for parents, teachers and professionals. An interactive employment board lets schools, companies and organizations post job offerings for professionals in the field of deafness. Professionals have the ability to post their resumes as well. Resources for support, assistive technology, advocacy, organizations and many more topics are available with descriptions and links in the Resource Directory. The Ask the Experts area allows site visitors to ask questions of special educators and and an auditory verbal therapist. The Event Calendar is used by organizations to post relevant events and seminars related to hearing loss. Development of HearingExchange is ongoing with fresh content added on a daily basis.
For further information about HearingExchange or its founder, email Paula Rosenthal at
info@hearingexchange.com. Because of her
hearing impairment, she prefers to be contacted by email or fax at 314.991.0190. HearingExchange is a privately owned and funded website.
