Teaching Activities for Children Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Continuing their mission to provide children with hearing loss the ability to learn to speak, the Moog Center has published a new, 260 page book geared toward teachers. It is titled, "Teaching Activities for Children Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing - A Practical Guide for Teachers." It explains how they teach deaf children to talk at the Moog Center and at the other Moog Curriculum Schools. While the Moog philosophy is that their curriculum is dynamic, changing as the technology changes and as they learn better ways of teaching, they are frequently asked to share their curriculum with other professionals so they wrote this book. It is adapted to accommodate for differences in children and the way they learn. In this book they articulate some of the techniques and strategies they use and describe some of the teaching activities they have found successful.

"The Moog Curriculum is the only one of its kind for teaching deaf and hard of hearing children to talk. I have witnessed its effectiveness first-hand when my daughter attended school there for 3 years. During her first year at Moog when she was just 3 3/4 years old, I saw tremendous growth in both her expressive and receptive language, something I had not seen in her 1 1/2 years in her previous oral program for hearing impaired children." ~ Paula Rosenthal, HearingExchange Founder
