“The
Mainstream News,” published eight times each school year
(August through May) by The Mainstream Center at
CLARKE School for the Deaf Center for Oral
Education, helps students, parents, and professionals work
together more effectively. This newsletter presents a broad range of
issues related to mainstreaming, including both practical information and
support with social/emotional adjustment. Articles are pertinent to
elementary and secondary levels.
In
addition, each issue features “Swimming in the Mainstream”, a column by
Claire Blatchford, author and teacher. A successful deaf adult, Claire
serves as a positive role model to student readers and helps to educate
parents, teachers and other professionals about hearing loss. She raises
tough questions and talks frankly about the difficulties of growing up
with a hearing loss while always finding a positive side to each
challenge.
