I have recently became a candidate for a cochlear implant. I have been give a choice of choosing a Clarion or a Nucleus. I have read through the material, watched the tapes and I just really don't know. Does anyone know of a web site that compares the two side by side. Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks, Tj IP: Logged |

Hi TJ: One of the best things you can do is join some of the listserves dedicated to people who already have cochlear implants and also those who are considering getting one. They are very informative and their lists are usually heavy, so I suggest getting a daily digest instead of individual emails. You can find a list of some of these in the HearingExchange Resource Directory here: www.hearingexchange.com/resources/Listservs_and_Discussion_Groups/. There are others that I hope to add shortly, so check back in a few days. Another thing you can do is to read some of the personal web pages that people with CIs have put together. They can be found in our directory here: www.hearingexchange.com/resources/Personal_Web_Pages/Adults/ Good luck with your research! ~Paula ------------------ IP: Logged |

I also went through what you are going through. One of the things to consider is "What is your surgeon & audie more comfortable with doing?" "What have they done the most of?" That was the deciding factor for me. I think that both the implants do a great job. IP: Logged |

Just a quick note that the geocities.com site is a little outdated now. It does not have the Med-El device or the Advanced Bionics CII device on it. The site's owner just got the CII device a few months ago. IP: Logged |

I've been using a Nucleus 24 implant for 4 years now. Chose it because it has the behind the ear speech processor. Makes all the difference in the world. That's MY choice, and since Clarion STILL doesn't have one that fits behind the ear, if convenience is important to you, Nucleus is the one to choose. IP: Logged |

Hello everyone, The Clarion BTE became available last month. My son just received his and we are programming it next week! Trish IP: Logged |
