I'm in the market for my first hearing aids but am having difficulty with all the companies/styles/options/etc. I think I want digital, CIC. I can wade through the options, though I'm not exactly sure what they all are. However, the one thing I can not find anywhere is a "Consumer Report" on brands. Why does the exact same aid from two different companies differ sometimes drastically in price? Unfortunately, price is a big factor in my decision, but I certainly don't want to sacrifice a huge amount for a few hundred dollars. Do some brands tend to need repair more often? Last longer? I've found one in particular that I like but really don't know companies reputations or etc. Is Audina a respected brand? IP: Logged |

Hellp, A hearing aid is a medical device and the more money a hearing aid cost the better it is. I have worn hearing aids for over 14 years. The best I suggest users to get is Oticon. The aids I have now are over 8 years old and they still work like new. In six months I am getting the Oticon DigiFocus II's. Just to give you an example of their quality consider this: I've competed in many full contact sports with my aids on. When I was a kid I forgot to take off my hearing aid while swimming and the aids never needed repair! In my experience the more they cost the better technology you are getting. The best thing to do is to find a hearing aid center that has been around for a while and knows the business. You should be able to get a list from an ENT clinic. check out www.oticon.com IP: Logged |

By the way Jay, I have never heard of Audina in my 14 years of being in the market. Growing up poor and now as a 23yr old college student working my way through, I too have a concern for cost. A lot of hearing aid centers will help with payment plans or in finding organizations which help in part or in full. IP: Logged |

My daughter has used Phonak HAs and the microlink FM for 4 years now. They help her tremendously, but I am a little tired of the maintenance required. They have needed to go in for repairs a lot lately. I may look into the Oticons. So I would like to know: IP: Logged |

quote: Jay, I would like to second Frank's answer. I have researched many types of HAs for my two children, and I have never heard of Audina. Do you have a website or telephone number for them? Is it possible that they are new to the US, and are well-known in Europe? IP: Logged |
