Does anyone know of any type of employment for a hearing impaired person, like maybe typing at home or something? I am interested in ideas. Thanks.

Hi,

While these are not places specifically for the hearing impaired, I frequent some excellent sites that offer ideas and support for people who want to work from home. If you are a woman...check out these sites:

www.wahm.com
www.bizymoms.com
www.momsnetwork.com

Be sure to tell them I sent you. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for other ideas too. I hope other members of HearingExchange will chime in with their ideas as I'm sure this topic is interesting to all of us.

Paula

I've asked myself the same question. I thought I was going to be at a loss for job opportunities since my hearing is getting worse. After my last American Sign Language class I've discovered that Deaf people have just about any job they want. Some are even doctors and lawyers! I figure that if a Deaf person can do it, so can I. Don't keep your options so limited, or you'll be missing a lot of neat stuff in life.

I work in a factory and they had made some provisions for me
for example i am made aware of staff meetings in advance so i can bring my hearing aids in i also get a hard copy of the meeting .and our Fork lifts all have lights .(i usually dont wear my aids to work because of the heat and dirt in the shop
The temps reach extreme as the furnaces we use to heat metals range between 900 and 1800 degrees)
