Have you ever felt overwhelmed with assistive equipment? In our household of 3 hard of hearing people, we have 3 sets of hearing aids, 3 sets of FM listening systems, 2 wireless email pagers and 2 cell phones. It's no wonder I lost my daughter's Microlink audio shoe (the receiver for her FM system). After searching high and low, I finally put in a claim for a replacement with only days to go until the insurance ran out. Today, two and a half weeks after it was lost, my daughter found it in a box of toys! Go figure. Have you or your child ever lost their hearing aids or assistive equipment? How did the company handle it? ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hi Paula! I haven't lost any of my daughter's equipment yet...But along those lines...My daughter will be going to a camp for the first time this year that will have swimming...This means she will have to take off her digital hearing aid and put on her waterproof hearing aid...Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping both these hearing aids "safe"...She dosen't really like the sound from her waterproof aid..so keeping that on her all day isn't really an option...I guess i just have to make sure I have insurance on both aids and hope for the best?? any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks! caryl adelman ..mom of jessica 5.5 yr hoh IP: Logged |

Hi Caryl! I've been thinking about you all...time for a playdate. We'll be back in the middle of June. My daughter uses the waterproof hearing aids too. I went in the first two days of camp just prior to the swim periods and showed the counselors how to put them in (our girls can do it themselves by now)I put her regular aids in the boxes that the waterproof ones come in and put them on the top shelf of her cubby. The aids came home in her camp bag every day because I put them in the Dry & Store box (highly recommended in the summer for both sets of aids, especially the ones that go in the water). Bye for now, Paula ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hi Paul: Rion of Japan makes Rionet waterproof and water resistant hearing aids. I've been using them for several years when swimming. They are not as powerful as some aids, but even with my profound hearing loss, I am able to get enough benefit from them that I find them helpful when I'm in the pool. (They are not for saltwater swimming or sports.) I couldn't find the manufacturer's site online, but you may want to ask your audiologist about trying them out. Wow! Waterproof hearing aids? Now there's something I wish I'd had around when I was younger. In regards to losing equipment- once, when I was around 9 or 10, one of my hearing aids mysteriously disappeared (I had a bad habit of taking one or both of my aids out to give my ears a "break"). We never found it- and ended up simply replacing it. There have also been times when I almost lost a hearing aid while on a fast moving theme park ride. The aid just kind of flew out of my ear. Luckily, after a little bit of searching in the bushes, we found it. ![]() Katie [This message has been edited by soliloquy (edited 05-25-2001).] IP: Logged |
