Parenting children can be overwhelming at times. Parenting children with special needs can add its own unique situations. I've found support by joining my local Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) through my school district. They also offered a monthly support group meeting in addition to the monthly SEPTA meetings. Where have you found support online or off-line? Let's give each other ideas to draw on. Hi Paula, I also parent a special needs child. She is 9 years old, and I have taken her out of school, because she just wasn't coping, in the classroom setting. I would love to connect with people in my area, that I could get ideas from especially in the area of her education. I,m not doing this homeschool thing well. I live in Abbotsford B.C. Hello, I have a 13 year old in public middle school and I have problems getting her teachers to follow her IEP. I found out through a meeting I asked for , that only 1 of her 7 teachers has read her IEP. Of course I was very upset, due to the fact that I work at her school and copied each one my self and gave it into the hands of each teacher asking them to please find the time to read it and call me with any questions. I have worked at her schools from day one. I feel that is the only way I can make sure she is treated right. She is in 7th grade now and this year has been tough on her. She has A-B honor roll, but it has taken alot from her.I talk to these teachers daily to find they say everythings fine , great student, then before report cards she show me her progress report with an F, oh my heart stoped. Of course I went to teacher and he said she failed a test. I ask him to retest, he said no, why. I asked did you not read her IEP, he said no do you want me to retest her, I looked and said I would like you to read her IEP. How is it one teacher goes out of her way to help my child and others do nothing ,and what can I do? I feel no one at her school listens to me . They say talk to the teacher first, well done that 100 times with still same results. Nothing. IP: Logged |
