I'm new to this site. My 12 year old son has been wearing aids for 4 years now. We have just had to purchase a second set, thanks to a curious and obviously hungry lab. The cost has risen to close to $3000 (ITE digital). Are there any resources for financial assistance for parents who "make too much money" (says them!) Our insurance company considers them cosmetic!

Have you visited the Listen-up web site? Kay has some really good info posted. Try www.listen-up.org/haidfund.htm.

I was recently successful in getting my insurance company to pay for hearing aids for my son. Are they specifically listed in your coverage book as an exclusion? The strategy you might use if you choose to appeal their decision to deny coverage will vary depending on the language in your certificate of coverage.

If you want to fight your insurance company, let me know a few more specifics and I might be able to provide you with some ideas.

Good luck!
Trish

Hi:

Also check the Focus on Hearing site at www.focusonhearing.org. There is a list of funding sources there as well.

Let us know what happens.

My two daughters have mild-moderate hearing loss. My oldest was diagnosed at 2 1/2 and my little was diagnoses at birth. Both are eligible for medical assistance until age 21 because their hearing loss is considered a disability. We have private insurance also and the medical assistance is considered secondary and is not based on our income (way too high to be considered otherwise) They cover anything our primary insurance does not cover...basically anything having to do with thier hearing. The aids are covered fully and we are given 2 packs of batteries per child each month. (what a savings!) Devon (the baby) has "sucked" 3 aids to death and they have been replaced at no cost to us each time. We live in PA and I don't know if the welfare rules vary with the state, but give you dept of public assistance a call. You might get some sort of financial help!
