I am getting ready to start my AVT(auditory-verbal therapy) training and I need one/two young children(ages birth thru age 3)w/ hearing loss that are going the spoken lang. route to work with once a week or several times a month, maybe more later. I am in Dayton, Ohio and I am willing to drive up to one hour. So if you are in the Cincinnati or Columbus area or north up near Lima that is fine too or near Richmond, Indiana. I can give the family references and a police background check, etc. I will put you in contact w/ my mentor also. I hope this will be a win-win situation. It will help me but it will be free to the family as I learn. I am a certified prek special needs teacher w/ a deaf ed certificate so I am NOT new to education. Please e-mail me at: dcolsonmccarthy@yahoo.com many thanks, Debbie C-M

Congratulations! I am very thankful to my auditory-verbal therapists from young childhood, for they all taught me a lot. You will be of help to many deaf in the Ohio state! I am in Nashville, TN which is about 5 hours from Dayton, and isn't it funny, I am looking at University of Dayton for college! I'm applying there, RIT/NTID, and probably University of Tennessee for college. Do you have any thoughts on UD? Maybe you could register with the deaf education district in the Dayton area or audiologists and they could request you to parents of young children going the verbal way. Just a thought! I know there is quite a number of deaf/hard of hearing in the Columbus area, as Ohio State seems to have quite a few deaf students. Good luck, and I applaud you once again

Hi hearty, Thanks for your response. First of all UD is a good school. I think it has a good reputation!! That is a good idea contacting an area local audiologist. They may know of some children and families. Also Ohio State might be a good source too. Thanks for that tidbit. Thanks again, Debbie
